My Water Colours

I have been painting in water colours for about 10 years now. I have been in the habit of giving them away or selling them before I can photograph them, so I only have a few represented here. I enjoy the translucency of the medium and also it's demanding nature. One does not get much of a second chance with water colours, mistakes pretty much stay as part of the image and either one lives with the "mistake" or starts over. With my busy life I like the fact that an entire painting can (and often must) be accomplished in a matter of hours.

Painted in Feb 2001
14" X 20" Watercolour

While in Hawaii I visited many art galleries. Some of the best work I saw was done by Jane Stewart. I liked her image "Talk to the Fish" so much I tried my hand at a copy.

Clydesdale Foal

Painted in March 2000
20" X 24" Watercolour

This image is from an old photograph in a magazine. The light was so beautiful and the image so evocative of my child hood I just had to paint it. I grew up with horses and the gentleman could easily be my grandfather.

Kids in the Woods
Kids in the Woods

Painted in Jan 2000
20" X 24" Watercolour

I took a photo of my daughter Alya and her cousins Connor and Melina in the woods behind our cottage. I thought it would make a good painting...I think that the bark of the tree came out well.

Mandavilla
Mandavilla

Painted from life Sept 1998.
14" X 20" Watercolour

One of my many favourite plants, that of course does not grow year round up here in zone 5, the mandavilla is none the less often sold in nurseries up here for summer containers. It looks nice in a vase too.
